Poor Man’s Poison Band consists of four boys. A band that is totally based on friendship and loving friends. Poor man’s poison band shows collaboration and compromise. Tommy McCarthy – on Mandolin, Dustin Medeiros on Upright Bass, Banjo, and Harmonica, Ryan Hakker on Guitar, Mike Jacobs on Guitar are the four pillars that make Poor man’s poison band. All four hail from the small California farm town of Hanford.
History of Poor Man’s Poison
The band started making music in 2019. In 2014 they all decided to take a break and focus on family and other careers. It was when the Providence album began building traction and received millions of streams worldwide they decided to make a comeback. On December 13, 2019, the band officially launched its first single titled Hell’s Comin’ with Me.
Formation of the brand
The boys were earlier associated with a band called – Done For Good. The band launched just 1 album and was shut thereafter. Drummer Dustin Medeiros, who is now a bassist in the band Poor Man’s Poison, was unfortunately diagnosed with tinnitus. This kept him away from drums and music. Also, Ryan Hakker who was a singer earlier with Done For Good started working with Mike Jacobs on different sounds. When Done For Good collapsed, the boys form Poor Man’s Poison with Mike Jacob.
What made them think of the name – Poor Man’s Poison
When the boys were asked about this interesting name of the band, Medeiros replied, “There is no glamorous story behind it. It’s just hard to find a name, and that’s where it landed. As far as the meaning, it’s best to take it as it means to you. It’s not about alcohol. It’s more about getting past the vice that holds you down in life; whatever that may be.”

If you are reading this in September 2020, the band has released 4 studio albums and 1 live album so far. The live album was recorded at the Fox Theater in Hanford CA featuring a few local musicians.
