There were rumors around, but it is confirmed now. The Ministry of Information and Technology announced sad news for PUBG fans by banning it on 2 September 2020. Additionally, 118 other Chinese apps were banned too. This came in after increasing tensions between India and China in eastern Ladakh.
In June this year, the center government had banned 59 Chinese apps including WeChat, TikTok, and UC Browser considering security concerns.
Apart from PUBG Banned, other apps include FaceU, Baidu, Baidu Express Edition, Tencent Watchlist, Reading, and Tencent Weiyun.
India had approx. 33 million active PUBG players, which makes it the most downloaded app in the country. PUBG marks 13 million users per day. The ministry of electronics and information technology had been receiving complaints related to misuse of the app. The complaint was directed towards the stealing of user’s data by unauthorized servers that detected locations outside India. Indian users now can not download the app as the Apple and Google play store has disabled it for Indian users. Users who already have the app may not be able to use it now. Telecom giants like JIO, Airtel, and others have also received a notification to block the use of these banned apps.
Many do not know that there are 2 PUBG applications. The original version was built by a South Korean company for the desktop, which can still be used by Indian users. This means the ban is only on PUBG mobile and PUBG lite versions built by a Chinese company.
